Abstract : Postoperative complications of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) are not uncanfmon as reviewed from the literature. The incra-cper.sive complications such as bleeding, injury to the abdominal organs, or perforation of the stomach during disseesion are usually obvious and can be managed immediately, while the late complications are usually discovered during the follow-up visits and need to be corrected soon,, e.g.. food intolerance, pouch dilatation, and stomach slippage as well as complications of the access pon. The Insent work describes the experience of the team to use the lap band covering a period from October 1995 to October1997 by wtich ISO cases were done, Five cases were done using the open method while 145 cases were perfonned laparoscopically. Only one death had occurred (0.6%) while 14 cases of gastric (stomach) slippage (96%) and one case of access port rotation (0.6%) were recorded. The above three complications occurred exclusively in the laparoscoptc group. The gastric slippage was successfully corrected lapazoscopically and the rotated access pen was re-adjusted through a small skin incision under local anaesthesia.
